Plan - FCP Video

SO my tentative plan for my video will be as follows. My video is going to focus on Breast Cancer Awareness and what different people are doing in the PLE's, ie: Schools, neighborhoods and towns, and Social Networking, ie: Facebook and groups that work actively. Then I will move on to the website set up by a lady called Susan G Komen. She has an entire website that is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness and has ways to help and create awareness. She is a social entrepreneur that has helped create a trend for a social cause.

I will begin by making slides that shows :
  1. Video title and my name
  2. Pictures of PINK DAY at QA
  3. Video & Pics of *outsourced video*
  4. Facebook & groups
  5. Susan G Komen for the Cure - http://ww5.komen.org/
I also chose a pink background for my slides.

SCRIPT for the VIDEO:
Personal Learning Environments are areas and systems where students, or any person, can effectively learn in an organized manner. PLE's are present all around us. The school you go to, the office you work in, the neighborhood or town you live in.

There are various social causes in this world and they are all equally important. This video will be focusing on Breast Cancer Awareness as October happened to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast Cancer is a disease that is increasing day by day. However, more efforts are being done by people worldwide. It is causes like this that unite the world as one humanity.

We can all do a small bit to help towards Breast Cancer Awareness. In October, my school, Qatar Academy, stepped up and decided to help make a difference. All students were requested to wear PINK on a particular day to help support the cause. It wasn't mandatory but it was extremely inspiring to see almost all the students and teachers dress in pink. Each person had to pay about QR 5 - 10 Riyals for the cause. Our schools are our PLE's and my school helped teach us values and support this important cause. I'm not being sexist but boys were equally enthusiastic and boldly dressed in PINK too!

It's not only few of us from one part of the world but there were runs and charity sales conducted all over the world. One such fundraiser was organized in a town in Australia. As you can see, the entire town actively participated to support the social cause. **VIDEO**

Most teenagers are obsessed with Facebook or Myspace! But, it's not a bad thing. There are a lot of active groups that support social causes and a lot that help create awareness about Breast Cancer. You can see the different groups and the large number of members that are part of these groups. It's that one small click (to join) that can make a big difference, so take that first step and help support Breast Cancer Awareness!

There are some very special people in this world that go an extra mile and decide to led us. These people that help a social cause and are the pillar of this cause are called Social Entrepreneurs. I am focusing on one such woman, Susan G Komen. Although she is no longer, the Susan G Komen organization was set up in her memory to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Susan G Komen was a women from Illinois who was diagnosed with Breat Cancer at the age of 33 and died 3 years later. Her sister, Nancy Brinker, believed she could have lived if she had known about her disease and due to a promise made to her sister, set up this organization. The organization's main aim is to 'end breast cancer forever'. This NGO (Non Govermental Organization) is the largest Breast Cancer charity in the United States. This organization, as you can see, has an extremely detaile website and have different ways that each one of us can contribute to help this social cause. We can donate, sign up for charities, fundraisers and walks and just be aware (read about the disease and inform as many as possible).
Breast Cancer is a fast growing disease but in the recent years many lives have been saved due to efforts made by different people worldwide to increase awareness about it. We may not be very rich or powerful but what we do have is a heart. We can feel for people. And this is the first step of help. Once we are aware, we can do small things that can in fact make a big difference. I, Naintara Viswanath, did my part by donating QR 10 to a foundation and wearing pink to school. What will you do?

Design - FlatClassroomProject

The problem is that I have to create a video to depict and analyze a trend about a social cause that is being helped by PLE's and Social Networking sites.

  • I can make the video by interviewing people at school about how they would like to make a differece to this world about a specific social cause.
  • I can make video of screencasts showing social networking sites and how they are contributing to social causes.
  • Create a video of still images.

I decide to make a combination of all of this. I will be making a video with screencasts and images =)

Outsourced Video Clip

On Tuesday, I sent the outsourced clip to Betsy L from the US. I also started working on the video.

Outsourced Video Clip

I put up my outsourced video request up on Thursday. Today I signed up to send an outsourced video to a Betsy in the US. I will have to take about 10-20 seconds of students working on laptops and computers and how it helps a normal school day.

Investigation - FlatClassroomProject

My topic is Social Networking and Personal Learning Environments specifically Social Entrepreneurship. I choose to make the video on how Social Networking sites are helping create awareness on issues and how we in our PLE's are also creating awareness about social issues amongst us. The video will contain small parts and screen shots of websites creating awareness. The issues I will be focusing on are Breast Cancer Awareness, AIDS awareness, Human Rights awareness efforts by Amnesty International USA and one more social cause.

These issues are related to me because I am one student who can make a difference to this world in my own way. I can contribute to creating awareness and in the process hopefully help save a life. This problem is related to Environment and Community and Service AOI's. The topics I will be focusing on are related to these AOI's. The questions I will be answering with the help of my video:
  • What social trends have sparked a change in society?
  • Which social trends might spark a change in the future and How?
  • Name the specific organisations working towards this change. Are they NGO's?
  • Will you be focusing on Health, Environmental and global issues?
I will be creating the video on Windows Movie Maker. So, I will be using different clips and photos that show this change. I will also be asking my team mates to help me by outsourcing video clips of what they do in that part of the world to create awareness on a social issue. For my video I will not need questionnaires.

The storyboard of my video

Today is Pinkk Dayy at our school! We were all supposed to wear pink in support of breast cancer. As my topic is about Personal Learning Environments and Social Networking. I am in group C - which is Social Entrepreneurship. SO my video is basically supposed to be about a future trend or a trend that is being developed for a social cause. I thought it would be a nice idea to take pictures of my friends who have worn pink to support breast cancer. This is related to how we in our school, which is our Personal Learning Environment, support a social cause :) I will be using some of these pictures and a video which will show us about a trend that is increasing.
